Arne Slot Maintains He Feels Safe and Has The Club's Backing Following PSV Eindhoven Defeat
Arne Slot admitted that it's understandable for questions to be raised about his future after a further heavy defeat against PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool suffered their 9th loss in 12 games, marking the club's worst run since being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were taken apart by the Eredivisie champions on a punishing night at their home ground.
“I'm confident, I am OK, I have got plenty of backing from above,” Slot commented.
“It would be nice to turn it around and secure a win naturally but if you are coaching a team and underperforming then it's typical that doubts arise.”
He noted, “I accept my position. It is not the first time I've found myself in a difficult position but it's crucial that we turned it around.”
Talks with The Board
Upon being questioned to provide details on his discussions with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot said:
“We communicate frequently. They assist to the team and for me and we discuss these matters but they aren't calling me all the time each day to say they back me.”
He mentioned, “During our regular exchanges I feel the belief. But I've not talked to them since this match so far so let’s see.”
Recurring Issues and Player Reaction
Slot expressed regret over recurring failings from his Liverpool side in their Champions League loss, namely wasted chances and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more direct in his evaluation of the club’s predicament.
“I don’t have the answers. Honestly, I don’t. I’m saying that to all,” Jones remarked.
“It’s just unacceptable. I don’t even have to wait to consider it. I’m past getting mad inside. I’m at the point now where I just don’t have the words.”
He added, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the team I support. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen Liverpool for years.”
“For many years, I've not seen a Reds side experiencing a phase of this nature with outcomes so bad.”
He concluded, “However we continue to wear the crest on our chest. And as long as that badge is taken away, we will always fight.”
“We’re going to try to help the side return to where it needs to be, demonstrate to all once more the values of this club and why it's known as the greatest side in the world.”
“However currently, we’re in the shit and we have to turn it around.”
