Battlefield 6's Casual Game Mode Ignites Heated Discussions Regarding AI Players, XP Rewards, and Wait Times
Recently, Battlefield Studios introduced a new game mode called Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this mode resembles the standard Breakthrough format but includes several key adjustments:
- Each team includes just eight human participants, with the rest made up of 32 bots.
- Activities done by real players award full XP, while AI activities provide lower rewards.
- Only two maps are available: Siege of Cairo and Empire State.
- Features like Player tags, achievements, and stat tracking have been turned off.
In short, the playlist lives up to its title: it offers a casual version of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume it's a good idea, as it provides additional choices for players looking for alternative methods to have fun with the title. However, if video games has shown one thing, it is that you can't please everyone. In other words, a lot of BF6 fans are mad.
Player Reactions: From Fury to Praise
"People want human opponents. Avoid making the errors of your competitors," states one reply to the official announcement. "Truly disappointing idea," says another. At the same time, in community forums, one user remarks, "It's unclear where we are headed with this title," while another details everything they consider to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Fix bugs, fix drone glitch, correct rocket mechanics, adjust aiming after sprinting, fix awful hit registration. We don't need this bot mode."
On the other hand, for every complaint, there are players sharing how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to practice, human participants prevent it from being a total farmfest but it's quite laid-back," reads one Reddit comment. "The community doesn't understand that there are gamers who have lives and can't play this title all the time. Let them strike a balance," adds another. A response via social media explains that as they're "a parent gamer with busy schedules, this is great for me," while someone else applauds the mode for "avoiding intense competition."
Valid Criticisms and Player Input
Despite the support, there are constructive reasons to complain about Casual Breakthrough. Some users have pointed out that it will make wait times more extended for other modes due to the large amount of playlists currently available. On a similar note, some areas often face mostly bots in the current modes. Additionally, it appears somewhat counterintuitive that the mode won't start without a required amount of real players, even though it focuses mostly on combat against bots.
Lastly, one of the biggest complaints is that Battlefield Portal was promised to offer full XP, including AI matches, but that got canned when they attempted to eliminate XP farming from the system. Thus this new playlist feels like the player base compromising halfway, according to forum feedback. Another describes this mode as the developers "dropping the ball significantly, I had great enjoyment in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to change it?"
Looking Ahead: Will Changes Be Made?
If the development team has demonstrated something so far with the latest installment, it's that they're listening and responding to player input. Assignments that were overly hard were adjusted rapidly, as did the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, if their data indicates this recent mode is underperforming to their expectations, they won't be shy to change it again.
