Kansas City Chiefs Acknowledge Domestic Violence Allegations Connected to Wide Receiver Rashee Rice

The NFL franchise released a comment on Wednesday evening indicating they are aware of domestic violence allegations circulated in social media posts by a ex-partner of player Rashee Rice and had been in contact with the league office.

The organization did not mention the player by name in their statement and noted they would have “no further comment at this time”.

Allegations Shared on Instagram

The woman, who likewise did not name Rice directly, posted a series of photos on Instagram that appeared to show indicators of bodily harm. She did say the individual in question was the parent of her kids, and reports indicate she has two children with Rice, whom the Chiefs drafted in the second round.

Police Reports Reportedly Unavailable

No official complaints were on file in Overland Park, Kansas where the alleged abuse is said to have occurred.

Rice's Recent Off-Field Troubles

The receiver missed the initial part of this NFL campaign following an league-mandated ban for his involvement in causing a multi-vehicle accident on a Dallas highway that left several individuals injured. Rice was sentenced 30 days in jail and five years’ probation after pleading guilty to serious offenses.

Statistically, he finished the year with 53 catches for 571 receiving yards and five TDs as the Kansas City finished with a losing record and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first time in a ten-year span.
