Manchester United Poised to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Major Acquisition for the WSL Side

The forward, with six months left on her contract, has been a consistent goalscorer for both club and country. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing is viewed as a marquee signing for the WSL team.

Her exit from Bayern was expected since she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s fans following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its leading forwards. Per reports, all the paperwork for the transfer are now finalised.

Consistent Goalscoring to Boost the Forward Line

The experienced striker's signing is expected to provide a significant uplift to the team's forward line. She has been highly consistent in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven straight seasons, including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Old Trafford

The acquisition of the German international coincides with a period when United seem to be gathering positive momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes feature qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the mid-season window has brought further activity:

  1. The signing of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since arriving in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s extension, a senior figure stated: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a club in the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much the club have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
