The network's Leading New Show of This Year Earns a Significant Renewal for Two More Seasons.

Last October, Adult Swim debuted a new season of its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. But, not long after, the channel introduced a completely new animated series with a markedly softer vibe. Haha, You Clowns emerged as sweet and soothing, reminiscent of a animated take of a laid-back talk show. At a time often marked by cynicism, this show's wholesomeness resonated deeply and helped it become a surprise hit.

A Significant Investment

On December 18th, the network confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for two more seasons. This gives showrunner Joe Cappa ample opportunity to further explore the story of the Campbell family. The show centers on three respectful teenage brothers whose defining trait is their strong bond for their widowed father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four key characters.

"I’m so grateful to the audience of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and shared it with others," remarked Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for a little longer."

Network Praise

In the same announcement praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "radically heartfelt and strangely uncanny." He specifically highlighted the fans who embraced the show and supported its peculiarly charming appeal.

"All of you got behind this new show, championed for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Wholesome Alternative

When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a gentle counterpart" to other adult animated fare. There’s something deeply soothing about watching this charming family navigate their everyday routines.

At the time, creator Joe Cappa stated his hope to help comedy break out of its current cynical streak. He linked this trend to a broader media landscape.

“There's this level of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” explained Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we must laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”

Future Seasons

Now, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa may well be part of that change he described. At a minimum, the renewal ensures audiences more opportunities to experience the warm glow of the unique Campbell clan.

The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. The complete first season is available for streaming on HBO Max.
