This Swine Life: Hog Named 6-7 Granted Clemency by Miami-Dade Mayor.
It might not have been at the equivalent scale as sparing holiday birds, but the county's top official experienced a ceremonial pardon event this week by ritually sparing the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“This pig is innocent. She is worthy of this pardon. She has committed zero crimes,” stated the mayor in a speech with inescapable allusions to the vast quantity of pardons issued since the onset of a current administration.
“Unless you count eating six or seven apples per day,” she went on. “May this pig enjoy a lengthy and joyful existence without fear.”
The event, either celebrating or rejecting the area's customary feast of eating roast pork during the holidays, was created to mirror the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The pig, provided by a first responder, was named for the modern linguistic fad of young people yelling “six seven” – deriving from a musical verse – often seemingly at random. The phrase became so ubiquitous that a prominent word reference recently declared “6-7” its annual vocabulary selection.
A Peaceful Retirement
The pardoned swine is now set to enjoy its days at a rural sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the ceremony's official statement.
“The pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to open the festive period,” said the event host, in a decidedly positive message.
“It captures the spirit of Miami: happy, varied, and rooted in traditions that foster togetherness. Every time, we are proud to celebrate tradition and kindness in a way unique to Miami.”
Participants enjoyed a meat-free selection of croquettes and Cuban coffee as they marked the swine's new lease on life.
